Stand for truth.
A partial truth will not save us –
partial truth is another term
for untruth
Yet we come with these fragments,
don’t know the whole story
(trained all our lives in our blindnesses
so we can’t see them)
We will be fragmented
until we insist on oneness,
which will feel at times
like tearing ourselves apart
so we can let partitions be deconstructed
so we can’t cordon ourselves off
from the darkness
So we can stand
and let the light
shine through everything,
washing us clean,
showing the whole truth
and setting things right.

A Large Place
In the place where everyone is alone,
alone with their breath,
alone with their struggles
In the place where you are alone,
regardless of site,
regardless of others
In the place where no one can come
because it’s the innermost depth
of your thoughts
There is a truth that still companions you,
that only needs the space it has
to open out infinity, deliver you into the large place
where you can breathe free and see clear
and fill the purpose your heart is hoping for.

Every Step
Truth can’t be a theory.
It has to be a thing that’s here,
that makes itself felt
in the bright coursing of strength
through limbs and loins,
that fills your mind and heart
with clarity, that speaks in the voice
more intimate than your own,
guides your feet in strides
along the high ridges,
shows you your sovereignty,
makes every step your home.

We Shall Overcome
“The meal cannot resist the yeast. “
And so it is, intelligence being primary –
not drivable from any lesser essence,
not divertible to any lesser goal
than bringing out the greatest good
So fear is overcome by grace,
having no power, finally,
to hold anyone enslaved,
the simple overriding truth
of goodness,
without any extra effort,
deftly melting fear away.

A Worthy Read
Since your words proved able
to make me dream,
to make me dream of caring
and of caring for,
and of a desperate effort
to drink from a fountain
where the water flowed flat
along its spiky sphere,
hard to get ones mouth on,
of people trying to connect
while stories
kept putting doors between them
I dreamed all these dreams
and you were in them –
less in their depths
than in the coming out,
as I woke up, and again,
as I returned to sleep
Since your words could do this,
I deem them
an honest story,
I consider them
a worthy read.

Clarify
I call on the ever-present
nature of all things
to speak up clearly
as the inner voice
in all of us
to let us each feel
how grounded we are
in the sovereignty
of that which is
and all these swirls —
tornados and manipulations
barking out conformity,
herding us to fear
may roar above the surface
but don’t come where we are,
don’t change a thing
except perhaps
to clarify our truth.

My Daily Belief
Time and again, I have to ask myself,
What do I believe? And under that,
What must I believe to allow me
to believe what I believe?
And are those underpinnings solid —
can I stand on them?
If not, let them fall away
along with everything built up on them.
Let my belief stand
on the ground of truth.

A Word for Tomorrow
Do not be dismayed
at the insanity you see —
the flagrant lies, the bland
denial of what’s known to be
This whole charade
with its elaborate displays
can only lope so far
before it topples
Do not be afraid,
for underneath the bald parade,
Life’s engine hums,
and in the end, life moves itself
the way life wants to go,
and as you nurture it,
it will bloom huge —
there is no lie it will not overthrow.

State of the Union
I have no skills
to bring to the table
I have no table
to bring anything to
I didn’t learn
in all my years
to make connections
that could pull any strings
And yet I’m pulling
with any breath I can align,
with any thoughts that I can think,
to reinforce the patterns
I hope to see emerge
I’ll pray for justice,
I’ll pray to see integrity
rise up in people
who were self serving
up till now
I’ll pray we all will see each other
by our lights and not our flaws
and see a way for true direction
for our land.

Gentle
The gentle laws that hold us
don’t need us to understand —
we can have wildly different concepts,
we can have our faith placed
in all manner of nothings,
we can be full of worry
for all the ways those nothings let us down
The gentle truth is not impressed
by where our minds may roam —
whether we fall or climb,
whether we stall or rage,
whether we pine or ponder,
or place is still assured
The stillness, somehow,
will approach us, will wait,
will be there when we pause,
will catch us up in welcome arms,
settle us in
to where we’ll know for sure that we belong.
