Pontifications

They had been taught to think
the truth was
an observable entity
that stood between them,
and one or another of them
could be more right
about what it was.

They were willing to allow
the actual truth might be subjective —
Her truth and his, mine and yours —
Colors and perspectives altered
by our points of view.

They didn’t know
that truth is not an object at all
but is a chord of harmony
that comes into tune
like a radio wave
and becomes the whole sound
and renders all vision one.

One Truth

Why should it seem strange
that for all our differences,
what we all want
is the same?

Yet I find myself astonished
at how one truth
dissolves so many schemes,
Renders irrelevant the diets, the regimes,
the resolutions and the dogged efforts,
the striving to be marginally better,
the accusations, tit for tat, of sin,
the arguments on which approach will win —

Listen:
You are beloved,
You are accepted,
You are needed,
You belong here,
And your many gifts are priceless.
You deserve to live,
And you deserve
all you need so you can fully thrive,
And what your heart tells you is right
really is.

The moment we are each convinced of this
We leave all hurt and pain and grief
for bliss.

Sea Change

Everything has changed
on the inside.
Though forms remain,
the structure
has been vivified.

What once was thought etheric
is seen to be more solid
(substance now defined by what’s alive)
And what we thought were bars
we now can see
are merely filterings and siftings
of the light.

What we once thought defined us
has shape-shifted with our spirit
And we see it sets no limits,
being infinite.

Everything has changed
on the inside.
Our step is free,
our vistas wide,
Though if we turn around and look again,
we may know
This is how we’ve always been.

When truth walks

When truth walks
Doors open
She is received
like a kiss
All resistance falling
to the yes

When truth walks
No matter how high
the lies are piled
How thick they’ve been amassed
She steps through them
Exposing them
as weightless shams

When we walk in truth
Though our steps are light
Our traction is momentous
for truth’s way is right.

The Light of Truth

Here in the still quiet
I can’t hold myself down too long
For all around me
Light rises
Like steady bubbles from underwater
Like steam from morning lakes

And no darkness can be amassed
to stop it
And no denial can distract me
from the fact that it is here
Not a construct of my thinking
Nothing I, through will or thought,
can fail to see

The light is here
The only true fact of being
In all honesty
the only thing
we ever truly know.

Steadying

Spirit, your eye
knows how to appraise me
You know how
to cradle my head in your hands
and tenderly reset
each strand of hair
each ruffled thought
each foolish misconception

You know how to set me steady
Hold me till my inner balance
finds itself
Send me on my course so gently
I can feel the poise to guide myself

Spirit, your gaze
is so clear
When I see with your eyes
I know that what I see is true:
My love is strong, my joy is pure
I choose your sight
to see through
I choose your sight
to see me through.

Mind’s Eye View

In my mind-picture of you
you were painted
with a bright palette —
yellows and oranges and greens —
exuberant color splashing
from your hands
which stretched out open,
the joy of your creating
crackling between your fingers
great spreads of overlapping hues
rising from you
filling up the canvas
and I knew
This is a true picture of you
Something you’ve always been
Something you will again
learn how to be.

New Truth

Here is the new truth:
Right now, you know
everything you need
to unfold
in the exquisite presence
of your perfection

You know
as surely as a seed
the subtle gravitations
that form you
at this moment
into what will swell and curl
and brilliantly unfurl
to capture sugar from the sun

You don’t need to learn
how to do it
Or do it badly for a while
and then get better
It’s not presumptuous
to know that you are perfect now
That your internal guide
unerringly directs you
in the shining grace of being

That every gift you give
has been designed
to bless essentially
And so it will
And all you’re called to be
you will fulfill.

You, always

The miracle of you
has always gleamed—
Bright dash of grace and harmony
Invoking angels’ gratitude
And who you are
has always been
as deeply loved
as buds forming
deep within protective casings
deep within the Principle
in which they curl
and in the Love that orchestrates their unfurling
As deeply loved as baby birds
And the care they call forth
in their attentive parents
who may not know why
but certainly know their calling

And who you are
is hedged about
as tenderly
as night’s soft shade
encloses coming seasons
and day’s clear dawn
reveals the seasons’ coming
And who you are
can never be denied
For you were made
with such great joy
And you are celebrated
with such sweet pride.
