Reflections

The moon is not in the pond.
The moon’s reflection
is not in the pond either,
though it looks that way to me,
shimmering there

The moon is not fractured
though the reflection seems to be,
telling of ripples as well as of moon,
showing their shadows
on the pond’s surface

I can learn of the moon
looking at the reflection,
but I can learn more
of both moon and reflection
by looking up.

Hearing Truth

Our hearts burn because
we all recognize
the truth when we hear it

It sits deep within us
and speaks in the place
where there’s no room for doubt,
speaks in the voice of
what we have always known,
silent, yet unassailable

Our hearts burn
because the truth’s light
reveals their depth –
they shine up its reflection
like moonlight in the bottom of a well.

Transition Time

My sense of beauty is enchanted
by this transition time
where windows show
the view and the reflection
at the same strength
and illustrate
things that go through each other —
inhabit the same space
without touching,
move according to their own lights,
their own laws —
coexisting
only in the eyes and minds
of those observing.
