Seeking Peace

Time to let the clamor cease —
all the chatter, all the different voices
who insist they have a right
to say their piece
Claim to speak for formidable forces

No
They don’t have a solution
They are only looping
words to give illusion of some substance
a sense of presence out of much rushing
But there’s nothing
Nothing true in anything they say

Spirit, tonight
You take over
Burn your clear light
through all my mental clutter
all that complains and mutters of discomfort
all that claims decline and disappointment

Instead, Spirit
You speak for me
You bear witness to the one
that you created me to be
Brimming with your power and your light
Shining forth your calmness through the night.

Cradling Prayer

Arms of Love
I see
how your hold on me
and on this house
so gently cradles us
and so allows
the meek and sweet emergence
of every heart’s desire
and each extending outward
of what we glimpse we are
Which, with the simple screen of your attention
You nourish and augment
While all our grinding efforts
and the fears and thoughts that block us
simply fall away into the void

And in your arms
we glow, we shine
Safe in this hallowed place
we snuggle in
and then reach out
resplendent in your grace.

Prayer for myself

Fear not, little one
You aren’t responsible
for imaging yourself
It’s not your thoughts
that make you ill
It’s not your thoughts
that make you whole
It’s not that you must find
some secret button to control
the things you feel and manifest today

The Love that heals you
is its own bright, steady source
It reveals you
and sets you on your course
And you can feel
its tender, cleansing touch
You’ll know it’s real
You’ll know it is enough
Fear not, for every cell of you is held
in perfect calm,
serenely peaceful, well.

Vision Prayer

Spirit, today
You can have my eyes
Hold them holy
Guide the light they gather
Give them focus
Let them synthesize
the clear truth you display
Let them harmonize
the elements of your day
Let me empathize
with everyone I see
So that I understand
your comprehensive ownership of me
The way your grace illumines
everything I know,
all that I am.

Guidance Prayer

Today, Spirit, I entrust
all my thoughts to you
because I must —
I know the courses I have run
have many sinkholes, many ruts
And if I set out on my own,
their deep-worn tracks
will ever thrust me
down the same false paths again

Spirit, today I float
with your calm breath to guide me
Hold my quiet hope
a growing light inside me
Let your wisdom cope
with every maze my thought may chase
Let me fly with you
Impart your grace
Wean me of those old recursions
Make me new
Let me be your mirror, through and through
Let me grasp, in this and every minute
your vast and shining world
and my place in it.

Steadying

Spirit, your eye
knows how to appraise me
You know how
to cradle my head in your hands
and tenderly reset
each strand of hair
each ruffled thought
each foolish misconception

You know how to set me steady
Hold me till my inner balance
finds itself
Send me on my course so gently
I can feel the poise to guide myself

Spirit, your gaze
is so clear
When I see with your eyes
I know that what I see is true:
My love is strong, my joy is pure
I choose your sight
to see through
I choose your sight
to see me through.

Angels

Angels, like rainbows
come in the mingling
of rain and sun
of need and that which always stands to meet it

Angels come
because of ever present Love
that shines through driving storms of doubt
refracting light, illuminating, blessing
lending striking beauty to the dousing

Angels glow through you, they glow through me
We shine forth as our splendid halos hover
So we stand transfixed
at this most precious gift:
The way they make us angels for each other.

Prayer Circle

In the cooling evening

In  the circle we had drawn
and sanctified by what we each had shared
In the space before the moonrise
As the sun departed softly
We united in our silent circle prayers

High on the hill, accompanied by kites
We whispered our desires,
We held them to the sky
And then together, when we all were ready
Sent them seven circle rounds and home

The common movement’s unity
The confluence of fervency
The power of our prayers
The comfort of community
Became a catalyst, I’m sure
(Beginning with each consciousness here present
Continuing with each one we each touch)
For something that, unfurled
Will now transform the world
In each of our perceptions and beyond.

Sustenance Prayer

Hold my days, Spirit
Hold my days —
I won’t find satisfaction any other way
You are the wind that moves all;
It’s so clear
Nothing else is substance; nothing else
is even here

You are the breath of my desire and its fulfillment
You provide the inner fire
and the inner stillness,
my going out and coming in,
My home and my adventure
Each thrill, each triumph, every friend
And all I can imagine

It does no good for me to build my dreams
with bricks of circumstances, things and schemes
Which are ephemeral
as ripples intersecting
They flash and disappear, and no projecting
of meaning onto them can make them last
(They only glint in future and in past)
But that which moves in me and gives me life
Sustains me always,
Always makes me thrive.

Clarity

Everything about my being
comes from my source
Not from the channels into which I flow
Not from the interactions that engage me
So if I feel splashed, diverted,
sullied or depleted,
I only need to turn
back to where the primal fount
of who I am
springs forth
and bubbles boldly
into being
and courses forward
Strong and pure and clean
Affirming and defining me again.
