Yes

I say yes
to your innocence,
Yes
to your innate beauty,
Yes
to the rightness of your purpose.
Yes
to the clarity
with which your essence —
from the sub-molecular on up —
informs your wholeness,
impels your action
in the perfect dance of service
where you feel
so providential,
so propitious,
so graced to be able to give
that which enables the loop of life
to thrive

I say yes to you
and nothing —
no phantom shadows of supposed necessities,
no lies about your substance or your motives —
can blind me to the truth of who you are.
I say yes,
and in this vast permission
there’s enough room
for your magnificent infinity
to be expressed.

Song of Being

The clear song poured forth
because it had to,
making no attempt
to fill the proffered goals
of artistry and excellence,
oblivious of any frames of critics.
It overflowed all their lines;
they were amazed
and put forth praise
and tried to hold it up
as the new standard.

But it kept coursing forth,
forever free,
forever unimpressed
by what the pundits said.
Clear song of being —
creating its own perfection
in every melody,
in every chord.

Borne Anew

In these past few days
I’ve been feeling
the mysterious lift,
the suspected disconnect,
the unexpected lightness
of sensing that my life
is being steered
by some other hand than mine

And it flies high
and it is strong
and it is tender,
And I can’t imagine
what we may achieve,
But it is bearing me
upward on the currents
of infinity

And I can only let go
of the no longer catching traction
of my feet,
and hold on
to this mighty rising power.

Infinity

Moving beyond
the common daily round,
the obligations and the expectations,
Moving beyond the thought
of what I am, or how I seem,
I glimpse that if I ever feel a lack,
There’s always infinity

Always the infinite impulse of Life,
Always the fathomless reaches of Mind,
Always the vast, unmarked terrain
of every heart

And I can move beyond
the strictures that confine my thought
within the walls of what I call myself,
and all the troubles that entails —
I have infinity,
and that will always be enough.

Sound Current

I come aware
of the river of sound
flowing through me
and its currents
all around
singing to me

I dip my face in,
Fill my throat
with sweet music
Warble it out
Let it quench
my constant thirst to be in tune,
Let my bones hum,
my heart descant

I roll and dive
in its bright curl and tumble,
Luxuriate in its exultant presence.
It bears me up, enlivens,
teaches me
It takes me homeward
to infinity.

Gold

This traffic
And this rain
And this pink-lined GPS
that shows me not moving
and may be telling me a bogus route
Cannot
In any way
obstruct the truth
of who and what and where I am

I am here
in the presence of peace
in the unfolding of Life
which ever takes
every sunlit and rain-drenched shaft of straw
and weaves
shimmering resplendent gold

Gold of liquid joy-filled richness
Gold of fine illumination
Gold of glowing moments and their memories
Lifting lilting luminosity
into all that’s here
Holding it eternal
where we are.

How to fly

The steering of myself is subtle
and tricky, since these dials —
the ones that I was taught controlled
my legs, my hands —
Turn out to have been only painted on
And the real controls
The ones that have the switch that lets me fly
Meticulously hidden for so long

I must remind myself each time
To leave the painted-on controls alone
To seek the hidden balance deep inside
And reconnect with what I’ve always known
To lean into the buoyant, flowing currents
Established when the world and I were formed
To catch the waves that carry me
along the perfect lines
where every move of grace has gone before.

Soul Kiss

For you to take all that you need,
Greedily drinking from the great infinity,
Feeds me, too —
If you have made me conduit,
All that bright strength
whooshes through me on its way to you
So we rise together
Cleaving to the vast eternal stream
In every breath regenerated
Reengaging with our ancient dreams.

Surveying

You can’t map this perfection
on anything less than infinity
No fairy tales —
happy ending or not —
can chart this vast terrain of love
No dreams, no plans
can catch or name it
Yet here it is

You can’t carve out for yourself
a portion you can take away
to eat alone, in some unnoticed corner
You can’t encapsulate it
in rules of thumb and formulas
for easy future access

Each time you love
you fling yourself
into the wide, unmappable
and ever perfect whole
of fully being
Your learning: not to make it better next time
but just about
the wonder of the now
Now that encompasses
all of eternity —
Everything Life can endow.

Two for Foret

(Our friend Foret passed on yesterday evening.  This evening I took a bike ride, thinking of him, and these are the images that came forth.)

Life Affirms Itself

Life affirms itself
in brilliant blue of sky
and clouds laid out
in languid abandon
of wisps and splotches
brightness of the late sun
softening the evening

It is a time for wistful thoughts of angels
and imagining us all gathering
free, now, from all our limitations —
all the times we felt we couldn’t share —
When we can recognize each other by the essence
that before we only saw in flashes
but which, in each of us, now shines clear

Life affirms itself
in this and every yearning
and in each instinctive turning
to our Love.

For Foret: A Tribute

Rainier-sized force of gravity
on the dance floor
Packing massive passion
Centrifugal powerhouse
Roiling currents with your playful storms
Humble and hoping
Romantic troubadour
Proffering sweet flowers plucked from air
Barefoot on your minstrel cycle
Seeking out harmonics, blending song
Forging from outlandish parts and phrases
A role you owned, a place where you belonged
I offer you this evening sky, this mountain
And through awakened feet, this farewell kiss
My feet to earth, and earth to you, Foret,
May you walk on in peace, inhabit bliss.
