Here and Now

Little soul, don’t feel too sorry
for the time you slept,
the years in which you missed
doing things you loved
because you thought you could be
good at things, without doing them

Don’t be too sorry
for the things you missed
from ignorance, or from miseducation

You live in infinity,
and time you spent asleep
means nothing.  As ever,
you are free to be resplendent
here and now.

Source

Where do I live?
What ribbons of contiguity
define my thought? How are they affixed?
What winds do they blow in? These stories
of sequenced events, cause and effect –
how much of them do I write myself,
and what inspires me?
What do I copy, what do I notice,
how much attention do I pay
to what I’ve written down?

These are important questions.
I won’t try to answer
before I’ve asked them fully,
I’ll let their unfurling consequences
make it clear,
and I will turn for confirmation
ever back to my creator,
I’ll turn for affirmation
to my source.

Kingdom

I have seen the kingdom
and it is within – it is the impulse
of my consciousness, the realm
of my desire, my hope, my love,
and that which governs them

I have seen the kingdom
and it is within – it’s what insists
on justice, what won’t settle
for lies, for privilege,
for ignorant oppression,
for childish blindness
to the things that need to change

I’ve seen the kingdom
in the hearts of others,
and I recognized the clarity,
the sudden opening –
vast canyons and the breathtaking
settledness, commanding calm,
the wave of certainty that washes doubt away –
kingdom within, in me, in us, as one.

Our

In many moments
that are like light between the trees,
that are like colors
across the evening sky,
I see my life is so much more
than what I thought

It can’t be limited by space or time –
it spills out of the sides
of any constructs, it stretches out
in comprehension
of something bigger than the realm of stars –
as comprehensive, finally, as “our”,
as big as hope, enduring as desire.

Last Light

The last light of the sky
wraps us in grace,
glows a reminder
that all of this –
all of this light and this color,
all of the cloud dancing grandeur,
is here for us,
here to fill us with
that which responds to the day’s gifts –
leaps up – no need for us trying –
proof of the stuff we are made of.

On My Feet

When all the places I’ve called home
have failed me, when I find myself
at the clench before the fall
or even tumbling,
then I may also feel
the gyroscopic whirr,
the inner humming
of my balance
righting itself,

And I will start again
to find the home
that can’t be taken,
contained, as it is,
in my true essence,
centering and grounding
everything I see,
assuring me of landing
on my feet.

Reason

Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord”

I’ll show you reason –
I’ll show you the wild flight of Mind,
in which you soar and dive like a kite,
in which you fly right at the edge of
all you’re discovering, right now,
that you can know, and do, and be

I’ll show you reason –
this is the reason you’re here,
this is the Allness eclipsing every
exception, every fear of not
being included, every niggling thought
of being unable or unworthy

This is the life –
the one you came here for.
I’ll show you reason –
There is none other
but the truth of what you are.

Crafted

“Shall the clay say to the potter, you have no skill?”

Let me be alive
to the touch which forms me,
the firm impress of understanding,
the subtle nuance of guidance

Let me thrill to the imparting
of my sense of who I am –
where I mesh, what I am called to,
what I can do

There is glory
in the constant contact –
smooth rippling, light catching, life sparking,
there is peace in knowing
I’m in my creator’s hands.

To stand before the king

Let me be nourished, these years,
by the pure essence
of what I am,
as it rises, churning forth light,
to meet what calls it,
as it answers with its own self
the summons to expand,
to venture forth like stars
in a young universe,
to feed itself with acts of blessing
it is called to give,
to feel itself becoming, more and more,
the very heart of all it has desired

In that way, after three years,
let me stand before the king,
for any king will see
this light outshines
any standards of the world,
this light is true –
true, always, to its source.

Supreme Wisdom

Supreme wisdom bubbles with mirth.
There’s nothing ponderous about it.
It takes the measure of every living thing,
and nothing is found wanting.
Every being is so delightful,
so spot on perfect, so ingenious
in how it’s made, supreme wisdom
can’t help but laugh
in sheer appreciation

In my quest for wisdom, let me feel
the lightness of the light –
light-hearted and heart-lighted,
a gravitas with an enduring twinkle,
and space for everyone,
and time to see them.
