Your Calling

your calling

There is a time
when the goal comes into view —
When you first see it
it may be blurry
like the moon through clouds
but it will insist

And though you may resist
by picking up whatever else
had ever held your interest,
You will drop them
or they will fall away
because they lack the light
to capture your attention,
You will look up from them
and the goal will shine

That’s when you’re ready
to bring everything —
all your dedication, your humility,
your earnest perseverance,
your steady work,
your insight
and your eager readiness
to be forever sparked,
because this is your course
and you will run it.

Jennifer’s Wisdom

JenniferMcCurdyJulius

(my sister’s words)

Who you are
is the same person
you’ve always been —
from birth, maybe before it

You’ve always been yourself —
you need not fear
that choice or circumstance
has made you less,
has trapped you into somewhere dull or damned,
or that by luck or narrow skill
you have avoided that so far
but that you might, at any moment, fall.

You are what you are,
and what you are is needed, blessed,
and is preserved, as pure as any element.
Nothing bad that’s come to you
has ever been deserved,
nor can it dampen you — your essence
is not suppressed

This is your life
and you know how to live it,
This is your gift,
and you know how to give it.

Your Truth

your truth

You can’t resist your truth.
By and by, it will overtake you,
make you see
the countless ways
you have been wrong.
But it will hold you
in such tenderness
that you will understand
you’ve always been approved of,
always loved.

No one else can resist your truth.
Though they may try
with edicts, ultimatums,
though they may think,
since you are dear to them,
that you should hear,
In the end they will admit your truth —
That, or you will lose each other.

Like a pupa, like a harvest,
truth ripens within us.
We may not know it when it’s small
but it will grow
until the day it bursts forth,
insistent,
and the protective stories
will split apart,
no longer relevant.
And truth’s form will be surprising,
elegant,
It will stretch out in perfect grace
and claim your day.

Timing

timing

The accolade came to her
twenty years late —
making the memories,
buried and filed away,
shift in their places, resettle

It was a strange feeling —
pleasure to hear it
but also an emptiness —
whistle of echoes
down so many changes
(children grown up in that time)

But she felt it was fitting
to hear of it now,
after she’d traveled
through all those long valleys,
after surrendering so many layers
of thoughts about herself,
In this moment
of owning her power,
pulling it in to herself,
Standing up.

To the Core

to the core

There is no easy path
There is no glib path
and when you go under
into the dark and twisted course
that brings you to the depths,
you go alone

No one can go through the fire for you
And no one, like you,
will be lit up by that singular glow
found only at the concentrated core
— heart of everything —

Your light is like none other,
like no one else’s.
It’s your integrity
that compels you
to take the dive,
It’s your integrity
that brings you out alive.

Prospectus

prospectus

The infinite canvas awaits!
The palette of thought,
the waves of color and connection,
the currents of harmony —

All we have desired
more deeply than we dared to dream
is ours
to create
in this field of time and space
with this impulse of Spirit

So we are designed
to bring all possibility
into being,
to know the fullness
of this moment by moment
dance
of all art,
of all music,
of all life.

Cloudscape

cloudpic

You start to wander
down the corridors
the scene shifts
before you get to ponder
how your thought drifts
how you start to wonder
what can lift you
from the tilting under
till you stop.

Those arguments
can roll past your head like clouds
and contract and expand
but they won’t touch you
and they can’t move anyone you love
and whatever shadows
they may cast across you
will move past
and be gone

You have been here
longer than your doubt
and you’ll endure
longer than the drama
where it twists
and tears you for a moment
and comes out.

More Changes

capture 11-26

We slip through
changes like beaded curtains,
changes like painted landscapes —
dry ice steam rises
catching the colors of the lights —
We walk through,
find ourselves outside . . .

What has changed?
Values are inverted —
golds for purples,
shade for light,
soft light blue for tones of sunrise —
(Just the normal transmutations
of any day)

What has changed?
Unpredicted sunlight sifts through
the hair of boys in the cafe,
unexpected ease expands
moment by moment,
the old constraints replaced
each day a little more
by the positive assertion
of I Am.

Who You Are

snow sky

So many teachings
tell you what you are
and you say yeah,
that’s nice,
but how will it help me
through all these weighty duties,
all the dread annoyances
of every day?

What does it take
to make them make a difference?
— One experience of filling up
with all the joy of it —
A joy so wide,
your former view
of who you are
can’t hold it,
can’t hold the great
suddenly unfurling
You,
grand enough to encompass
all that goodness,
bright enough to light up
the whole sky.

Choosing Light

Light is always here
for me to choose —
Let me remember this,
let me not lose
myself in finding fault,
in feeling bad,
in calculating what is better
than what I’ve had . . .

Though in the dark and convoluted paths
of circumstance and self positioning,
there seem to be so many dismal turns,
it’s worth remembering:
Just when my angst and awkwardness seem prevalent
there is a light that renders them irrelevant.
