Demeanor

Let me slip in
with calm confidence,
let me slip into the cage
with no fear of the snarling  beast

I will bring nothing with me –
nothing of pride, nothing of judgment,
I will go with trust
that nothing that I am
can be attacked
and that my fearlessness
can bring the needed evidence,
my love
can bring the needed peace.

This waterfall

The demons are put to silence.
They are not permitted to use your voice
to rage. You have control
of your voice, and your thoughts.

And if this is not clear, the demons
may be permitted to rush down violently
and choke themselves. Whereby you can notice
that you are still here,
quiet, untouched.
You can receive
all the goodness offered you.
Hold out your hands, open your mouth
and take it in.
You never ran with them actually.
You have always stood here
like a mountainside,
you have always been this waterfall.

Flood Tides

There may be moments
where you see the whole tide
of what we have called history –
sweeping events, toxic thought forces
that left so many tangled, stranded,
caught in some anomaly of feeling,
left alone, or shattered, fractured,
grinding brokenly against others
in thoughtless eddies
of interactions

You may find peace in knowing
none of this is your fault  –
not where you started
or how you landed
or what people said were
choices that you made

You may find peace in feeling
the flood tides slowly rising,
lifting you up, bringing us back together,
giving a way to reimagine
what it means to live here on this earth.

Alchemy

Alchemy has become
a popular word,
and I, for one, have experienced
that perfect balancing
where suddenly
all that came from me was gold –
truth from my mouth,
light from my being

But I need a deeper practice,
for my goal is not the sense
of being lit up from within,
but the illumination
that renders all the rumors of the shadow
irrelevant, forgotten, as they are,
in the bold line and color
of the day.

Convergence

We are coming together
in the knitting of things that grow
from different directions
and converge
like edges on the opposite sides
of a wound,
like native blackberry
weaving a mat to cover the bare ground

Don’t despair at the distance between us –
we are coming together.
You may feel appalled at my position,
but don’t worry  –
we are all pulled to the same thing,
and though my yearning seems to come
from a different place than yours,
it seeks the same goal, and so
we will come together.

Press

Tears can cleanse
and tears can mend –
waterfalls cascading down,
smoothing rocks beneath,
filling in the crevices,
rendering me meek

Lord knows I need something  –
I am willing to cry and cry
and cry and cry,
but will it be enough?

Not in the depths of my own chasm,
not in the shallows of my conclusions.
Let me press myself
up against the infinite
so that its light shines through.

Foot washing

And if we come to find ourselves
soiled beyond all recognition,
bound and twisted
by the world’s oppressive logic

If we feel betrayed, bamboozled,
bankrupt, if we feel the huge mistakes
we’ve made were baked in, embedded
in the vast array of lies that we grew up with –

that is good news. It shows us separating
from what we thought we were,
and, following the feelings down,
we’ll find ourselves,
ready and able to be clean

For starters, we can wash each other,
bathe each other in forgiveness,
use the vision of what we are
to see the same in them,
let their clear sight of us
help set us free.

My prayer

This is my prayer  –
to see you,
to always see you
and not be fooled
by any of the demons
which claim to have moved in,
which use your voice to shout
and say things
you would never say

This is my prayer  –
to see you
whole and innocent and droll,
affluent and generous,
bright shine of Soul.

After the Reaping

The reaping itself
is still hard work,
however victorious it may be,
however much in awe I find myself,
collecting this harvest
from the infinite  beneficence

After the reaping,
if I do nothing for a day or two,
I am to be forgiven  –
each gratitude-inducing wave
must be received, must be accorded
the full wonder of its splendor

Tomorrow I’ll begin again
to gather up the gifts,
take up the work again
and see how I will grow.

Heart’s Desire

In this time as I come closer
to considering my heart’s desire,
I notice that it hasn’t changed,
though it has been completely redefined,
for I always wanted
to pull substance straight out of the air,
to make things manifest,
I wanted magic, and wanted, too, to fly

And in living life in Spirit,
every thing I do
pulls substance out of presence,
finds riches
in the qualities that Life entails,
which I can find with my attention
and bring forth with my affection
(another thing I find is always there)

And as for flying,
what greater freedom is there
than to move from grace to grace,
from joy to joy? – apprenticed to bring forth
the fruits of Love
in the tender healing acts of every day.
