Day of Freedom

And now I’ll tell you of the time
when we all took off our crooked glasses
and shook our heads to focus our surprise
and spent some puzzled moments
trying to readjust our eyes
but then admitted
that here and now, as never
in our prior experience,
we could see

— because no longer did we need to fear
what someone else might think of us,
no longer did we need to squint
to weigh each other in the scales,
no longer did we think that judging others
was something we or anyone
was tasked to do

So we were free —
free to move with all the strength
and competence, and sweet compassion
that we always dreamed comprised our being,
free to love, with no fear of rejection,
free to trust our clarity of seeing.

Summer Communion

The heat comes on sudden
and the garden
which yesterday looked lush
looks parched,
and our efforts
which yesterday looked ready to fruit
appear to face a desert

But my boots have filled
with daisy petals and grass seed
from my ministrations to the young trees
and there is a deeper communion
that makes me feel
like a watered garden
that does not fear in times of drought
and I will stay here
in this more verdant place
until the world around me
does the same.

Not on my own

The journey is to great for me —
I am brought, once again,
to my knees,
I have wrung myself out
and hung myself to dry
and will be slowly converted
as with soft wind blowing through,
the song and sun between the trees

I will be won over
by blessings which must be just here,
though I don’t see them yet,
and will stand forth strong again
after a while,
rested by my ride.

Grace, Given

Let me pause and consider
how grace is given us,
moment by moment,
day after day

Not as some rare prize
we came on by chance
or earned with great virtue
or masterful play

Grace is given —
it blesses us,
though we’re confounded
by how we occasioned it,
how it arrives

Grace we live in
will bless, too,
the others around us –
in blessing us, they, too,
will graciously thrive.

Full

The day fills up with
the bobbing of grass shafts,
their heads identifying
distinct natures
above the blades

The day fills up with
winds that rise and fall
and the clicks and tocks of ravens
and the crystal-colored calls
of blackbirds

The day is full of
the presence of Spirit
rising up through everything,
causing and being everything,
each seed head and foot fall,
each breath, each perception,
each grace.

By Virtue of Your Being

By virtue of your being, you can know
(before any assessment,
with no need to take your measure)
by virtue of your being —
just because you’re here —
you can know
that you are good

Good for your surroundings,
good for the ones you know,
good for the rolling out of time,
along the course of things that happen

Don’t ever think your being
is just grudgingly allowed —
you’re not a stand-in
for something that would be better

There is no way for you
to be any less than perfectly designed
and implemented
in the universe of Mind.

Feel This

Sweet child, feel this:
your source that holds you —
the depth and richness
of what it always offers

This well of sustenance
is your pleasure to pour forth,
in infinite, sparkling refreshment.
Nothing can hold your essence back,
nothing can stifle or wilt it

Dear one, in this
you are never alone,
and the path always opens before you,
bright as a river course,
full as this moment,
gathering others
to dance in its bliss.

Cause and Effect

I let myself tune in to
the stillness inherent
in being everywhere,
the power inherent
in being all that is,
the fullness of the satisfaction
of having nothing but the All
be my powering source,
be my cause, be my information,
be my identity,
be my reward

I’m ushered into
the potent hush
that can be anywhere
with no trajectory,
in which I wait
forever, but with no delay,
no hesitation, no lurch, no pause,
and live the sweet unfolding
of Life’s eternal law.

Innocence

Such an awe-inducing gift
to be shown
the innocence of all the people here —
the child light shining up
through everything they do,
the hope of goodness,
the hope of being seen

There is no snarl of circumstance
that’s not untangled
effortlessly, gently,
in the rising tide of gratefulness
as each of these
receives the benediction —
yes, you’re welcome and essential here,
yes, you are supported in your being.

Walk in power

Walk in power
for your movement comes
from a force within,
a source that’s infinite

Just like song pours out of birds,
and last night, music flowed as sweetly
from all of those who chose to share,
like dance comes up from music
needing no rehearsal,
you step forth

Your frame does not create your gait,
it only follows —
the poise, the grace, the rhythm
are in Mind.
