My Mind

I love my mind.
My mind is a field, not a particle.
My mind is not mine,
and I am not alone here

I love my Mind.
My Mind is infinite.
My Mind is not mine,
and not even exactly ours

I love the soaring flight
of light, of thought, of color,
I love imagination and analogy,
I love the resonance
that chimes us all together
in the pulsing, coursing
harmony of being

I love my Mind, our Mind.
It is the field of all being.
It is the author and the keeper
of everything we are,
and it holds us safe and whole
within its knowing.

“Like a tree planted by the rivers”

Well, who wouldn’t delight
in the law of Life, in the law of light?
Who doesn’t thrill
with the intricacy of every interlocking need,
each interlacing gift?

Who wouldn’t be amazed
at how perfectly
all these separate entities
flock and soar together,
turn and breathe as one?

From here comes the courage
to leave behind the old story,
that’s based on conflict
and has to have an enemy
and makes its horrid bargains
and insists on being right

There’s plenty of evidence
for the goodness of everything.
It may not make a good story,
but it makes a good life.

Conversation

I heard without a doubt
(my Creator told me
clear as the blue shine on the floor
stretching to the boundaries
of all my being)
I heard without a doubt
that at the very bottom of my tears
there was nothing there but goodness

Why then, was I still afraid?
Did I still believe my life rolled out
in some realm other than
the one my Maker owned?
Did I think I might be comforted
but not healed? Saved but left alone?

Surely (my Creator told me
this morning as I watched the tiny
crescent moon start its traverse
across the brightening sky)
Surely you couldn’t think
I’d leave you in a realm I didn’t govern!

Surely you can feel: It’s not
that I deliver you from evil
so much as that my all-present goodness
always governs all events —

Yours, too. Yourself, your family
and every fact unfolding in this day.
And that’s why, in my goodness,
you don’t have to be afraid.

Class

In whose name
could I ask her
to sit still and listen
when the resplendence
of life, of joy, of music,
was dancing through her being?

Whose very presence
was effervescent Spirit, Soul,
whose love of life
was overflowing?

No, we would listen
together, with the inspiration
of that very bounce,
to show, not tell
what goodness is,
to live, not talk of, truth.

Shine

And the weaving together
of all these bright points
stretched into curving lines
through their movement,
tracing color, tracing form

The weaving together
that delivers unrestrained joy
and super refined peace,
that weaving is directed
by the being that enfolds us all

We will dance it
but we don’t need to design it —
all we need to do today
is shine.

Following

True leadership
shows me how to follow
the liquid love that flows
under the surface,
the light that glows through
cracks in our illusions,
the course of which transfigures
everything we thought we were,
everything we thought we knew

We may have said
our life is crucible
for this appearing
but perhaps more accurately
this appearing is our life —
this pure substance
not only powers everything,
but is the everything,
all we ever hoped for,
what we’ll always be.

What I Stand On

Things can happen
that will make you give up thinking
you have any say
in the design and development
of yourself, your body, your character

Which can be good, because then
you won’t keep thinking
you should have done better
or that you deserve to suffer
or at least not live as well as you would
if only you would do better
for yourself

The day you realize
it’s entirely out of your hands,
it’s crucial to also know
the One whose hands it’s in
never wants you to suffer,
never uses pain as a tool,
always intends your full delight and satisfaction
and is delighted and satisfied with you

Then you see
no pain can win,
no disability can triumph.
you are able, head to toe,
you are loved, spine to sky,
your are held in the open space
of your belonging,
before you even start to try.

Fathered

We had felt ourselves fatherless
for so long. Bereft of the security
of a wise hand, a holder of place
for us, a steady arm
guiding our wobbly efforts

We had been fatherless, and
so had our fathers, betrayed
when they reached out
for crucial aid

We carried ourselves thus,
tentative, cringing from expected blows,
trying to take up less space,
to go unnoticed
and so avoid expulsion

So astonishing to learn
Our Father has been with us all along
providing bright support around our heads,
plenty of ground to stand on,
plenty of headroom,
extending past to future
all along the presence of our days

As we walk, now royal,
in the exclamation
of our stature as beloved
sons and daughters of our Father,
welcomed home.

Business

My little mind, with all its love
held in potential,
awaiting its permission,
awaiting right conditions,
is in the business of deferring good

It has its explanations and excuses,
it has its blame, it has its resignation,
it tells me that my joy depends
on things that happen and what others do

I choose, today, the grand act of surrender
of my mental machinations
to the one Mind —
my partial, hesitating love
to Love, the universal and divine.
If I can stay with Mind, with Love,
that’s all I have to hold,
for Love is in the business
of turning straw to gold.

Our Ride

blackberryhawthorncottonwood

The key perception
is knowing what we ride on,
what holds the rolling forces
through which we move,
what keeps us full and vital
and in play

Then we’ll know it’s not dependent
on anything except the one infinity,
and how we’re held in sweet divinity,
wedded to the brightness of our days

And we won’t be frightened
by threats that we might lose
our source of comfort and protection,
or that the place where we belong
could fall away

For then we’ll stand up strong
against whatever may claim power,
ride steady and exhilarated
through the fray,
showing by our lives
the nature of our strength,
showing with our love
the winning way.
