I will dance

I will dance because I need to
Dance because the world spins
faster than we know
Dance because the currents
call on me to throw
my coalescing self into the swirl
Dance because in dancing I will know
from the pull of the dynamic
who I am

I will dance
I will dance because it feeds me
with the rhythm of connection
and the instant-forged affection
of the spin
Dance because I learn, thus,
the elemental oneness
that summons us together from within

I will dance because this gift of dance is given
This gift of music which has been expressed
to fill us with our heritage of heaven
and let us know for sure that we are blessed.

Together

If we breathe together —

the whole earth —
in grand and rushing intakes,
curling into every cranny,
long, sustained releasing,
returning and returning

If we fly together
riding on the currents
and creating them
swooping, swirling, echoing each other
cushioned by the air, ecstatic, gliding

If we hum together
all the toning of our integral vibrations
finding unforeseen harmonics, deep support
joining in the long reverberation
of all we are, and all we’ve been before

Then we shall later walk enchanted
through the richness of each moment’s breath
knowing that no gesture goes unanswered
each movement met by all the ones we’re with.

Chain of Lights

It’s an unexpected gift
to be seen
and to find myself to be
part of a chain
A chain of shining lights
pulled along in awe and joy
on through the rolling wave of time
The pulse of undulation
and the centrifuge of spinning
augmenting our connection
to each other
Leading us enchanted
to the place of no beginning
The place from which we came and now return
knowing it has always been our home.

Love and Magic: Three Enchantments

 I.
When people love
they make magic
Everything living responds to it
Land rises up at its touch
Joyfully bends as it bends them
Brings forth a beauty
that calls forth their love again
making both ever more rich.
II.
In the dance of love
The will does not reside in either entity
It hovers in that charged and potent
mystic space between them
When they move to follow it
it’s nothing like
the simple, hollow closure
that comes from exercising one’s own will
It’s an exhilaration
and it brings a jubilation
and a satisfaction nothing else can fill.
III.
Magic is real
It is the dance of love
Everyone who loves creates it
sparkling in everything they touch
Others, when they see it, know it
Even if it’s nothing they can name
That which has been loved
will lift them
Bless them so they’ll never be the same.

Shelter

A house of cards
A house of straw
A house of words
What gravitas can they afford?

A bold, invented self
Or even one that hides
And only tells itself its little stories
How can it feed the hunger of my soul?

I’m rendered quiet
I don’t even have two cards
To lean against each other
No straw that isn’t old and wet and mildewed
No words to form a self-respecting cover

So I go and dance
I build my house of arcs of reaching arms
And light that flows between each darting glance
All filled with music and the moment’s charms

And if my gesture shelters someone else
And gathers others as its moves unfold
I, too, will find a shelter for myself
In that sweet harmony
The dance can hold.

Dancing free

There are natural ways
for things of different type to separate
The wheat from chaff with weight and agitation
The silver melting free in fervent heat

What then releases our presuppositions
that hold us stiff and stressed and isolated?
What focuses our sense of truth conditions
that home us to the joy for which we’ve waited?

A centrifuge, a tone, an ionizer
The kindled heat between caressing hands
A touch of grace that leaves us kinder, wiser
A place we feel we have the right to stand
The light that sparks and rises from connection
Illuminates our timeless, deep perfection.

Serving Light

In this temple of the dance
You can put off your shoes
and join the sacred rite
Enter anonymous into the holy trance
to be a vessel, bearer of the light

(You’ll choose it for the way
                                        the light transfixes you
Fills out your being, flowing from inside
                   against your skin
                                              suffusing you
         until you glow and radiate
                       and float in brilliant bliss
                 across the room)

Moving then in service to the light
Your eyes can touch another’s, and ignite
The signal can be passed from hand to hand
Each one who joins will cause it to expand

You may come back to find your boundaries shifted
Your thoughts now finer, softer, lifted
Buoyant, like all things light has sifted
You’ll see yourself anew as blessed and gifted

(Not that you ever have to look at it this way
This is the work, but it is also play!)

Waltz Time

I was dancing with my darling
The night they were playing
That beautiful Tennessee Waltz
And you know how it goes
Well, we stepped on some toes
But we’re certain it wasn’t our faults.

For we swung round and round
Round and round, round and round
Till the ceiling spun into the walls
And though we heard people swear
As we crashed here and there
We hardly even noticed their falls.

I was dancing with my darling
The night they were playing
That beautiful Tennessee Waltz
Till they cleared off the floor
And showed us the door
And brought all our fun to a halt(z).

A Mystery

Embracing you today, I felt
the tingle of the timeless touch of stars
that wheel in galaxies
across the fractal spheres of space
And send waves of awareness to each other
A steady, stretched out dance
that celebrates the universe

So we connect
And constellations of our touch
The sudden places of awareness
Burst like starlight
in the space
of our perception
Dark gaps between the sparks
whoosh by like worlds —
What are we, anyway?

I see us each as some bright galaxy
Lit up by love
Attracted by a force we give no name
Held in its tender harmonies
While wide we rove
Connected still
through time and space the same.

Not Dancing

The only way to not know how to dance
Is if you’re sealed up in a wall of “don’t”—
“Don’t move like that, your timing’s off,
You’re moving up while everyone is moving down
You haven’t learned the steps, you’re slow and stiff
Don’t be a fool, an inadvertent clown.”

But every atom understands the grace
Of flowing in its chain of interaction
Each receives its impulse in its place
And sends it on in effortless reaction

The way to learn to dance
Is to let the impulse grow behind the wall
Till even it must move, must join the music
And all your being answers to its call.
