Seeking angels

In charting of tomorrow’s course,
I think of times I’ve sought
the clarity of angels

Sometimes  I’ve simply yearned for one
to tell me what to do,
at other times I’ve listened
for the inner voice, the recognized imperative,
whose unity with mine released me
from the task of mapping words to action,
(where gaps appear between instruction
and my understanding)

I’ll take whatever angels I can get  –
the ones that keep me company,
the ones that speak as one with me,
the ones that make me feel the wisdom is my own,
the ones that take my hand and guide me
through the vast unknown

And I’ll take angels for everybody  –
none of us can navigate this world alone
we all could use their guidance
for our journey home.

A place of angels

Let us meet each other
in a place of angels,
where there is no baggage
of what we said yesterday,
or what we have said and done
these past thirty-nine years

Let us be caught up in the light
of present splendor,
of coming into
all we are meant to be

Let us blend lights
with all the angels here,
especially the one
we learned so much love from

Let’s apply that learning
to each other and to everyone
who intersects our vision,
who brings their quintessential radiance
into the day.

To the bereaved father whose image I saw on Facebook

In the yearning to do more for you
than cry and cry,
I asked my angel daughter
to go to you,
to deliver you to the large place
she showed me,
where you can meet your daughter,
and she can laugh with you,
and your tears will change,
in the alchemy that changes everything,
in the equation that cancels out pain and death,
and they will be like sweet morning dew
at the dawn of eternal day.

Accompanied

You can find that angels
are walking with you
as your feet step down
the gravel road,
and your heart suddenly fills
with satisfaction
because you’re good at what you’re doing,
because someone made you laugh,
because the air is full of grace

In so many ways
the fundamental fact of goodness
makes itself known to your soul.
You could call them angels
for how they translate truth
into a feeling you so deeply
desire and understand.

Angel

I sat still
so I could
consider the angel —
that rift of my daily perception,
that tearing away
of the predetermined
course of things
(the slowly wilting fading picture
with all its hopes diminishing,
its outcome possibly horrific
or ultimately, in the best case,
sad)

The angel was like
a ripping of that scene in two,
revealing, where the picture was,
a vast expanse,
a light above the sun

I had to stop,
for everything is different,
have to watch
to see how I’ll be led.

Gabriel

I saw the angel Gabriel today,
bright like fountain water,
clear as the quench of thirst,
soft as redemption

I remembered
(for Gabriel has come to me before)
how sure it is that afterwards
the promise of the moment
exquisitely unfolds

So, too, this time, in my sweet family,
let it be so —
let that pure presence
permeate us wholly,
let us be filled
and let us be delivered
to our promised native harmony.

An Angel

an angel

Well, I asked for an angel
and it came streaming in,
bright and searing as molten glass
but cool, like crystal water.
I felt it fill me from the inside
(slowly, for my need was great)

It said, This is what you are,
this is what feeds you, this is
your comfort — this is how you know
you will always choose life,
always choose the vital, vibrant surge
that puts feet on mountaintops
and gives them balance
in the brave curve of waves,
gives form and purpose
to wings riding updrafts

Nothing can take this away from you
or anyone else. Nothing can obscure
its presence. And the right angel
will come to everyone who has a need,
shining, from inside of them,
each one’s truth.
