From the clear-eyed stillness
you can watch
while the whole mechanism
grinds out its tales,
ever more colossal in its efforts
to manipulate
You can see what they want.
And you can see how lost
they must be, to think they want that
You can watch them set their snare
and know you won’t step in,
and you can see that finally
all it can bring down
is its own lopsided structure
Down with a crash
that will only result
in showing forth the light,
as, ultimately, everything does.

Dear Wendy: I’ve been wanting to thank you for your beautiful poems in the book your mother sent to me. Nancy showed me how to contact you here. I have been thoroughly enjoying your poems and Jennifer’s ceramics as I have been slowly reading through your book. I’m not surprised that you are a poet as you were always so thoughtful and pensive as a child when I knew you in Pasadena. I am keeping your book where I can read your poems every day as I learn more from them each time I read them. Once our libraries open again I will look for your other books. Congratulations and best wishes to you!
Hi Betsy,
Lovely to hear from you! I’m so glad you are enjoying our book. I’m also glad you and my mom have stayed in touch all these years – I know she values that connection. It would be great if you found some of my other books in your library – I would actually be surprised to hear they had some. They are available from this website, though.
Best to you and yours –
Wendy
